Olive flies peak in May and early June in normal conditions Nymphs will begin to emerge late morning. Trout can be a little late off the mark to start but after several consecutive days routines are easily identified. Autumn can also see a last fling of Olives which sees a significant increase again and can finish our sport on a high note.


Identification of hatches can be quite easy on Stillwaters look out for Martins, Swallows and Gulls hovering in any specific area. Weather conditions can have a significant impact on Olive hatches, any form of heat wave can see the hatch move to over night, and conversely colder conditions can push the hatch into the afternoon.

Problem with other makes of Flex or Flexi Floss is that they are sold in cut lengths. UNI FLEXX FLOSS is packaged on a spool of 15 yards, so I can cut long lengths to suit the flies I'm tying. The Red Flexx Floss is just the right colour I was looking for. Great product, good price and speedy delivery from the essentially, thanks guys😊
